What is Jeet Kune Do?
Jeet Kune Do (JKD) is a martial art, life philosophy and combat system founded by Bruce Lee in 1967. Unlike more traditional martial arts, which are systems, Jeet Kune Do is not fixed or patterned. Instead, it is a philosophy of guiding thoughts centered around core concepts which are taken from various fighting systems such as Wing Chun, boxing, fencing and Thai boxing.
One of the theories of Jeet Kune Do is that a fighter should do whatever is necessary to defend himself, regardless of where the techniques come from. As such, Jeet Kune Do is often referred to as the origin of today’s Mixed Martial Arts (MMA).

situations instead of flashy "flowery techniques" which arguably "look good" but
are oftentimes not practical or prove ineffective in street survival and
self-defense situations.
What is the Derderian Academy of Martial Arts?
Founded in 1993, the Derderian Academy of Martial Arts offers both children’s and adult martial arts training and fitness programs. Currently, the children’s program consists of Shinko-Ryu Kempo while adult programs range from Jeet Kune Do to Shinko-Ryu Kempo, and Filipino martial arts for both men and women.
Located in Johnston, Rhode Island, the Academy itself is a 3000 square foot facility with two separate training dojos, a waiting area, and a changing room.

The Jeet Kune Do Program at the Derderian Academy of Martial Arts employs four (4) Full Certified Jeet Kune Do Instructors and two (2) assistant instructors.

The Jeet Kune Do program taught at the Derderian Academy of Martial Arts follows the JKD Concepts method originating at Guro Dan Inosanto.
How is the Jeet Kune Do Program at Derderian Academy structured?
The Derderian Academy offers a structured 10 level stepped Jeet Kune Do program. The program educates students on foundational Jun Fan Gung Fu technique in its lower levels and later enables students to exercise those foundations cohesively in its upper levels through the Conceptual method of JKD. The program is progressive and builds techniques and exposes new tactics step by step.
Each level and each session of the Derderian Academy Jeet Kune Do program is delivered by a certified Full Jeet Kune Do instructor.
