In the television show Longstreet, James Franciscus asks Bruce Lee, “What do you call this thing you do?” Bruce Lee replies, "In Cantonese, Jeet Kune Do, The Way of the Intercepting Fist."
Since his passing, there has been much debate over the name Jeet Kune Do. Is it a style or a concept? Is it based on Eastern or Western martial arts? Bruce Lee himself was quoted as saying “it’s only a name.”
Students of Jeet Kune Do at Derderian Academy are taught to “flow” from long distance, ( kicking- range), to middle distance, (hand- range), to close quarter, (trapping & grappling range) with movements that are economical and efficient, utilizing the most direct lines and angles. Jeet Kune Do teaches how to effectively pursue the most direct line of attack without breaks or interruptions. As one technique is completed, the Jeet Kune Do student blends into the next one until it is concluded.
The Jun Fan/Jeet Kune Do classes at Derderian Academy are devoted entirely to teaching and preserving the arts & philosophies of the late Bruce Lee. Students are able to enhance their natural attributes, such as coordination, timing, speed, endurance, strength and agility, using the innovative Jeet Kune Do teaching and training methods developed by Bruce Lee, and preserved and taught to today by his protégé, student and training partner, Dan Inosanto.
